Okay, I haven't blogged in forever. And i will post another blog soon, updating my wonderfully crazy life. But this blog isn't going to be like that, lol
I was at work at the daycare the other day, and one of the younger girls (7 yrs old) was crying because some of the kids wouldn't let her play. This particular girl is extremely sensitive and lets herself get upset very easily. We've tried everything to get her to calm down and not be so paranoid about everything (she's been like this for years) and nothing has worked.
So this day, I'm just at a loss because she cries all the time and i feel so bad because she is such a sweet girl, and i don't know how to help her. I sit her down and ask her why she is sad. She proceeds to tell me the story. And i told her this:
The next time something like this happens, you have a choice. You can choose to be upset and cry. Or you can choose to have fun and be happy. She kept saying that she can't help it, she just gets upset first. I told her i understand, but you CAN help it. You can just choose to be happy.
Then i really thought about what i was saying to her. This is a concept that adults struggle with. We get to decide to be happy. We can't control what happens to us, but we can control how we react to what happens to us. You can ALWAYS choose to be happy.
So i told the little girl to make a list of things that make her happy, and she did. And i told her, the next time you feel like you might get upset, go do one of these things until you feel better. The next day, she was crying (again) and i asked her if she remembered what i told her the previous day. She said, "yes you told me to choose to have fun" she walked away for about 20 minutes and was still upset. Then she came back and asked me if she could watch a Justin Bieber music video on youtube on my phone. Now i NEVER let the kids play with my iPhone for obvious reasons, lol. But i couldn't tell her no. Why? Because she was choosing to stop being upset and to do something that she likes until she felt better!!! OMG it worked! So i let her watch the video and she was happy for the rest of the day =)
So i just wanted to share that with everyone. You can always choose happiness and to have fun. If you find yourself always aggitated or upset by others, choose to not let it bother you. 'its too hard, blah blah.." NO it's not too hard. It's a choice. And why on earth would you want to give someone else the power to control your happiness?! By letting things and people upset you, you're letting them choose for you. Choose to let it go!
Now clearly, this doesn't always work. Things happen, people react before they can think. It's not foolproof. But really...it's so easy.
I used to get upset really easy. If something bad happened, i would spend days, devasted about it. And lately, i've been SO happy and laid back. I was just thinking, "man, everything has been going so great lately!" but in reality...things aren't much better than they were before. there's still been some pretty crappy things that are happening in my life (details to come in my next blog!) so it's not that life is better. but my approach to life is better, so that makes the bad stuff SO much more bearable!
So the next time you feel like everything is hopeless, or you let someone else piss you off or make you cry or upset you. Or when life get gets you down, remember that you can choose to not be bothered! Choose to have fun! If my 7 year olds at daycare can do it, surely we all can! =)
Love you friends! <3 more blogs to come! =)
